Think! Road safety education, Lesson 5: Distraction action

This lesson focuses on identifying what things may distract pedestrians, cyclists or drivers and lead to accidents. We can watch a camera phone advertisement in which a group of teenagers are messing about and while they walk down the street and one of them is hit by a car. The "Ghosts" advertisement shows a boy listening to music and about to cross between parked cars without looking. He stops when he sees "ghosts" of young people who crossed the road distractedly. Then students can look at the "Crossing the road flashcard" and brainstorm the best way to cross the road and turn right or left being pedestrians, cyclists or drivers. At the end we can take a driving challenge and see if we can cope with mobile phone distractions.
